There is so much choice available for digital cameras. As with so many products in the digital revolution, as component prices have fallen so too has the price of many great makes and models. You can now buy cheap digital cameras at basic entry level for less than £50. For more advanced cameras expect to pay more.

Digital cameras work by transforming the image viewed on-screen into digital information. Digital cameras have no mechanical parts inside. As a result, they offer the user more flexibility than the old analogue models. Photographs can be automatically stored in the camera's memory. If you are unhappy with a picture you simply delete it from memory instantly, saving time and money by not having to print it out.

There are several things you can do with photos stored in memory. You can keep them there, print them out onto paper, delete them from your hard drive, store them on CD or load them into a photo package and edit them.

Entry level cameras start at around £50 and come with limited features such as a small view finder, limited zoom and lens flexibility. Basic level cameras are normally harsh on batteries and have limited memory, which means limited amount of snaps can be saved. They will have low pixel resolution, which mean that the image quality of the snaps will not be great.
