Electric lawnmowers cost on average half as much as their equivalent petrol model. Electric mowers are light to use and some actually work like a hovercraft.

Petrol powered mowers are preferred for use on grass away from a power supply. Petrol mowers often give the best results. Professional gardeners love them for their power and flexibility. Many can be adjusted for different grass conditions. Keep extra petrol close by for emergencies. Petrol lawnmowers are the most expensive mowers on the market. They do tend to be the noisiest and heaviest too but their pro outweigh their con.

You can also buy sit- in lawnmowers which are ideal for large gardens. These really are at the luxury end of the market. Sit-in mowers can only be used when the grass is not too hilly or wet. They are expensive to buy and maintain. Normally the cutting mechanism is found in the front.
