The price of microwave ovens have plummeted in the last ten years. They were once prohibitively expensive but now the price has lowered so much that every house now has one.

Cheap microwave ovens have brought convenience food to the masses. Before microwaves, we had to wait a long time for our food to cook or thaw. Now it takes minutes. We take it out of the fridge or cupboard, put it into the micro and press the button. That is it.

All microwave ovens do the same thing. They cook food quickly. They only differ in the added features that come with them, such as cooking power, cooking space and speed.

Basic microwaves come with limited power, capacity and a limited amount of added features. More expensive models have larger power capacity, greater load capacity and loads of added features. Choose a model that is within your budget and suits your needs.

Combination ovens are now on the market. These have a standard oven and microwave combined in one unit. If you are buying a microwave to fit in a certain space in your kitchen then measure that space and compare them to the measurements of the microwave. Make sure the model you buy fits those measurements.

A microwave oven complements a cooker very well. It’s faster to use for heating, preparing and defrosting food. You also save on washing up since you can cook food on the same plate as you serve it on. A microwave oven is environmentally friendly due to its lower energy expenditure and savings on washing up.
