It is hard to believe but the once humble vacuum cleaner has now become trendy and desirable. Vacs are now a status symbol. The most desirable models on the market can cost hundreds of pounds. The designs of these are beautiful.

Once, we only had dreary and functional vacuum cleaners that only came in cream. Now we have vacuums in variety of colours and wonderfully intricate designs. Even the angle of the vacuums has been played with. We once were stuck with heavy models that sat on castors on the floor. Now we have upright models too.

We can still buy these functional vacuum cleaners if that is what we want. These tend to be considerably cheaper than the more trendy models. The basic models all do the same job and only differ in their size and suction power.

In time gone by, all vacs came with a bag that had to be emptied or changed once full. As the bag became more full suction was lost. Modern models are bagless and never lose suction. When the dirt compartment fills take it out to the bin and empty it. If your vacuum cleaner does still have a bag, remember that a loss of suction is a sign that the bag is filling and will soon need replaced.

Some top of the range models combine a wet cleaning function and a drying function. These 'wet and dry' machines are ideal for people trying to clean pretty dirty surfaces. These machines are still expensive although the price has decreased considerably recently. Wet and dry vacs were notorious for the loud piercing noises that the machine used to make during use. They are quieter to use now.
