When you buy a brand new set of dumbbells always read the instructions carefully first. Follow to the letter any instructions they give to perform any dumbbell routine. Incorrectly used dumbbells can actually do severe damage to the body. Many new dumbbells come with grips to avoid slippage. If you have an older set which does not have any hand grips on it always wipe them down to remove sweat.

Never use a dumbbell set that is too heavy for you. It may look cool in the gym when you are trying to impress someone, but it could do lasting damage to you. It could cause severe muscle damage and in extreme cases could lead to long lasting health problems.
